Acting & Singing Classes
If your interested in working on your craft while you're singing with us, we offer masterclasses in acting and singing. This season our own Dr. Maria Kanyova will offer these classes. In addition to direction here at MWOT, Dr. Kanyova is a celebrated opera singer and been singing leading roles in major opera houses for over 25 years. She has been teaching voice even longer and has established herself as a prominent voice professor at UMKC.
Conductor Laurann Gilley was selected by The Dallas Opera to be an observer at its Hart Institute for Women Conductors in 2018. She has conducted in various capacities with Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Opera in the Neighborhoods, Glimmerglass Opera, and Northwestern University. She has been a pianist and coach with the Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago for the past 13 years, performing frequently with members of the ensemble, coaching upcoming repertoire, playing for the final stage auditions, recording for WFMT, and playing with the Lyric Opera Orchestra, and has worked in similar capacities with San Francisco Opera, Seattle Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, San Diego Opera, and Vancouver Opera. An avid chamber musician, Ms. Gilley has accompanied recitals at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, the Chicago Cultural Center, on the San Francisco Opera Schwabacher Series, and in other venues throughout the U.S. and Canada. She has been on the faculty of Northwestern University since 2010.
